Burning Man: 2004

Well here they are, a little late in arriving but still, I think, my favorite of the three in which I've managed to participate. My initial reason for going to the Burn was to do research on art cars, as I'd always had a yen to build one. Not surprising then that most of my photos are of art cars. Eventually this spurred me to organize my first effort, Short John Silver.

Photo #1: One of my own campmates Bunny Joe built this simple and elegant carrotmobile. By using relatively thin carpet and inserting fluorescents within the body of the vehicle the carrot could be made to goow at night: very kewl!
Photo #2: If I had a ton of money, lots of helpers, plenty of space, a huge trailer, heaps of talent and spare time up the wazoo I could build something like this! Made completely from scratch it looks like a real "bone shaker" but what a beauty!
Photo #3: Fairly rotten photo (I was using a Canon Elph) showing possibilities using a pickup truck as the original vehicle. My old '93 Ranger was looking pretty dodgy by '04 and I had an eye to reincarnate it as something more interesting...
Photo #4: According to the DMV it's not enough to simply put a deck on top of a car; it's required that the entire external bodywork now be disguised. What great ideas from this gang!
Photo #5: Generic "golf cart" art car. Seemed like a simple enough hack, but by '06 this sort of modification is being frowned upon as it doesn't adequately camoflage the original vehicle.
Photo #6: A really elegant "golf cart" conversion; one that has survived the test of time and easily licensed for the Playa. It incorporates many unique features, like petals that can be folded flat for boarding and really spectacular nighttime illumination.
Photo #7: Mmmmmm, hotties! Woof! Couldn't miss taking a photo of this elegant posterior. Sigh...
Photo #8: Not sure of the official name of this beastie, but there is a condition one can get out on the desert called "Playa Foot"; maybe this thing's name? Heh.
Photo #9: Unfortunately this is the only photo I got of a character who was billing himself as Shitfuck the Clown. He blew a mean soprano sax...
Photo #10:Center Camp tends to be the flake accumulation point, but occasionally one can catch someone who's really got their shit together. This stylin' dude fit that description...
Photo #11: One of the better sunsets I saw that year. There were brief scattered rain showers this day and the evening air was fairly clear...
